UPU Industries Ltd wins second Queen's Award

UPU Industries Ltd, the Dromore, Co. Down, based manufacturer of crop conservation technologies today, 21 April 2004, confirmed it had won a second Queens Award for Enterprise. This time in the International Trade category following the companies Innovation award received in 2001.

The company is a global exporter from Northern Ireland and is currently expanding in the USA with a $15 million purpose built production facility, increasing employment numbers from 60 to 135 people. This after having significantly increased it's production capacity in Northern Ireland during 2003.

Group Managing Director, Philip Orr, said, “This prestigious award comes after an extremely intensive and successful year and deservedly symbolises the tremendous achievements of our workforce and distributors. To win the highest of all business awards for a second time says ‘we must do some things well’ and it is particularly satisfying to have first won the Innovation award in 2001, continued our investment commitment to Northern Ireland, and seen it culminate in a second award, for International Trade. It’s an exciting day and I wish to extend my personal thank you to all of our committed staff and our worldwide customers who have so solidly supported our company”.
